First Victory Ceremony

The first victory ceremony of the 2010 Olympics was on Feb 14th! It was a great night celebrating British Columbia the host province. It showcased the various talents that British Columbia had to offer! First a group of performers were aboriginal and they did a traditional dance and the traditional drums. After that a group of Punjabi dancers started to dance and then this lead into a very awesome fashion show! The designs were so beautiful! Then a drum show began which was very up beat and made me want to dance! While the drums were playing a ballet dance came in to form.
After that it was time for the medal ceremony, we sat and then stood up! It was a great ceremony. A cool fact about the medals was the if you put all the medal together is makes a picture. The artist had in mind that each medal was one of a kind, but together they make a picture. The medals were amazing, I give koodoos to the artist!
Then it was time for the Nelly Furado show! She rocked BC place with her music! She sang about six songs and then left. She sang some of her famous songs like Maneater and I'm like a bird. It was a fun ceremony and I can not wait till I go again on my birthday Feb. 17th!
*My computer is being slow, when it working pictures will be up*

A Fallen Athlete

February 12th is a day that everyone will remember as the Opening Ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics, but for the Georgian it will forever be a day of morning. Nodar Kumaritashvili a Georgian Luge Athlete died in a tragic accident on Feb. 12. Nodar Kumaritashvili was only 21 years old and this was his first every Olympic appearance. Nodar was ranked 44th in the World and had qualified for the 2010 Olympics. The Georgian team still marched in the athletes parade in the opening ceremonies but wore black arm bands and a black ribbon on their flag in morning of their fallen team mate. The whole Olympic community is shocked by this death and their support is with the Georgian team and family of Nodar. My condolences to the family of Nodar, his team mates and the whole Georgian community. I hope they will find strength and win any medals in the honor of him.
The IOC and the Luge governing body state that the other Luge competitions will go on as planned. They have said that the death of Nodar was due to human error not the tracks speed. No matter what the officials or newspapers say it was truly unfortunate that he lost his life. He could have gotten gold. A sad start to the 2010 Olympic Games, my heart goes out to the family and friends. I will be going to the first Victory Ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympic games on Sunday!

A Great Start

The Opening Ceremonies for the 2010 Olympic Games was a spectacular show. Each component of the show was choreographed to perfection. My favorite part of the show was the Aboriginal piece, it was amazing. It was great that VANOC had joined with the Aboriginal people of BC. It made Vancouver's opening ceremonies so unique. Another great part of the show was the mountain and the snowboards and skiers. It was a creative way to incorporate snow in an closed stadium.
The show was great, there was five final torch bearers! Wayne Gretzky, Steve Nash, Nancy Greene, Rick Hansen and Catriona Le May Dean. Unfortunately one of the four pillars of the cauldron was not coming up. It look a little silly at first but all in all it was a magically night. Wayne Gretzy then went down to Waterfront to light the outside cauldron which was breath taking!

Only Half an Hour left

Only half an hour left until the Opening Ceremonies for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. I was following the torch relay and it was amazing. I think I will let the pictures speak for themselves! My favourite part of the torch relay was when the "torch kiss" this is when the two torches meet and the flame is transferred between the torches. The torch relay is the longest domestic torch relay in Olympic history. Over 45,000 km was covered, over 12,000 torch bearers carried the flame through out Canada.

I went downtown and went to Robson Square to see all the buzz there. The zip line was in full swing and it looked like so much fun! I might go on it soon, if I get a chance to. The BC house was very busy, I did not get to go in but it looked like fun! Then I walked to the library to see the CODE sponsored by the Cultural Olympiad. The CODE is about the Olympic Truce, it was not in service today but I think it is going to in the other days. The Olympic Truce is about making your peace. I caught the Canada Line to Yaletown when I saw the torch relay again! It was amazing I think I got some great pictures!
Then I wondered around and ended up at the Livecity Yaletown. Just a couple of tips if you are going to any Livecity events. Try to come with the smallest bag possible because you will go through security. Do not bring any food or bevarages becuase they will trash them. Only half an hour till the Opening Ceremonies!! Watch it live are http://www.ctv.bc.ca/

Opening Ceremonies!

I have just come home from the final dress rehearsal of the 2010 Olympic Opening Ceremonies! It was an amazing show! The ceremony was stunning and the world will love what they will see on Feb. 12th. I am not going to say anything about the show, I do not want to give it away. I can however tell you that it is going to be an opening ceremony that the world is going to remember. The whole world is going to be in awe as the Opening Ceremonies start! The show is jam packed with famous Canadian singers and an spectacular aboriginal piece. Ooops I think I said to much already, no more about the show.

Things that you need to know if you are going to the opening ceremonies or any other Olympic Game event is that you need to come prepared. Your ticket acts as your bus pass and you can ride on public transit the day of your event. I think that it is best if you leave early and make sure you give yourself ample amout of time. When you are at the event try to bring the smallest bag possible so you will not have to wait in line for security. Make sure that you do not bring any food, or any other items that are prohibited by VANOC. To get more information on what you can and cannot bring go to VANOC's website" http://www.vancouver2010.com/

The 2010 Olympics Games are almost here! The opening ceremony on Friday will blow your mind! Make sure to watch the event on TV or if you have tickets have fun! Tomorrow I will go to the torch celebration at Yaletown!!
